The Doing Business project is an annual publication of the World Bank, one of the four flagship publications of the World Bank Group that benchmarks business regulations in 189 economies worldwide. The Paying Taxes indicator, which measures the taxes and mandatory contributions that a standardized case study firm pays in its second year of operation, is one of the 11 indicator sets published by the Doing Business report:
- Starting a business
- Dealing with construction permits
- Getting electricity
- Registering property
- Getting credit
- Protecting minority investors
- Paying taxes
- Trading across borders
- Enforcing contracts
- Resolving insolvency
- Labor market regulation.
Doing Business 2017 report covered changes in 2015/2016. Doing Business rank of Serbia for 2017 was 47 out of 189 countries, which represents increase of 7 positions.
The progress was also made in the Paying taxes, where Serbia moved up from 98th to 78th position.
Serbia was recognized among the 10 economies showing the most notable improvement in performance on the Doing Business indicators in 2015/16, together with Brunei Darussalam, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Belarus, Indonesia, Georgia, Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.
Summaries of Doing Business Reforms for Serbia in 2015/16 highlighted by World Bank:
- Capitalizing on advancements in modern technology, Serbia made it mandatory to request a building permit online through the e-permit system.
- Serbia introduced effective time limits for the registration of property rights at the real estate cadaster.
